HomeTurf is a service-area checker that businesses put on their own websites. That means two kinds of people trust us with data: the businesses who use HomeTurf, and the visitors who type an address into a checker. This page covers both, in plain language.
If you typed your address into a checker
The checker belongs to the business whose website you were on. When you check an address, here is exactly what happens:
- Your address is converted to a map point so we can answer “is this inside the territory?” If you don't submit the contact form, we do not keep your address. We keep the map point rounded to roughly 100 meters — about a block — plus the town name, so the business can see “12 checks from Millbrook this month” without ever being able to reconstruct your house.
- If you do ask for a visit or join a waitlist, we keep what you submitted — name, address, phone, email, and what you need done — and deliver it to that business. It is their customer data; we process it for them.
- The checker sets no cookies and runs no advertising or analytics trackers. It uses a short-lived token (about 15 minutes) to prevent abuse, derived in part from a truncated form of your network address that we do not store long-term.
- We score checks for signs of automation (data-center networks, headless browsers) so bots don't pollute the business's demand map. Scoring never blocks a real person, and the signals are kept as a score, not a profile.
If you run a business on HomeTurf
- Account data: your name, email, business name, phone, and password (stored as a modern salted hash — we cannot read it).
- Billing: handled by Polar, our merchant of record. We never see or store full card numbers.
- Your territory and leads are yours. You can export them anytime, and if you cancel, they stay available through your paid period and are deleted on your request.
- Maps: territories are computed against OpenStreetMap data on infrastructure we run ourselves — address lookups are not sent to third-party map APIs.
Who we share data with
Only the processors it takes to run the product: our hosting providers (Contabo for servers, Cloudflare for the widget's delivery network), our email provider (for lead notifications and reports), and Polar (billing). We do not sell data, run ads, or share anything with data brokers. Ever.
Retention
- Rounded check points and town names: kept while the business account is active, for its demand map.
- Leads: kept until the business deletes them or closes the account.
- Backups: encrypted, stored off-provider, aged out on a fixed schedule.
Your rights
Want your data corrected, exported, or deleted? Email privacy@usehometurf.com and a human will handle it. If you submitted a lead through a business's checker, we'll route the request to them and confirm when it's done.
